Mary and Martha: Preschool Bible Lesson

We just started teaching the 4 year old class at our church this past week and they are sweetest and silliest group of kiddos.

{ARRIVAL}  We started class just like every week, the first 8-10 minutes of class the children come in and play with toys that are laid out on the table. It is a great time to reinforce how God wants us to treat our friends. It also gives me time to talk to the little ones about their day, welcome visitors and finish up prepping any materials.

{INTRODUCTION} We then met on the carpet to discuss why we come to Bible class and sing and talk about our bibles.  We open our class praying together by having a circle prayer.  We continued to discuss things that we pray for (family, thanks, help, etc.)  We read the story of Mary and Martha in the The Beginner’s Bible.  We talked about why Mary's choice of listening to Jesus was better than Martha's choice of getting tasks done around their home.

{CRAFT} The children then went to a table to color the printable and we discussed the different actions the children were doing in the pictures and that all the jobs were important, but some were more important to God.  As the children finished coloring and cutting their pages, I assisted in helping them place the cards by what God wants us to put first and then what we should do.

{RETELLING} Once the children's pages were complete, we retold the story using the Jesus, Mary and Martha necklaces.  I reread the story as the children acted it out and then they switched roles.  It was adorable and helped the little ones retain the story.
{CLOSING} To end the class, we sang the song Mary and Martha together as the parents came to pick up their children.

You can get all the materials used in this Bible class {here}!  Enjoy!!!
