Metamorphosis with a Preschooler: Part Three and Earth Day!

Ki-sis. Yep, that's what our caterpillars changed into...a ki-sis!  Haha! Grayson was so excited, and a tad bit confused, to see his caterpillars change into chrysalises or chrysalides.

I took some pictures of them in their container and us moving them into our Butterfly Garden...and then I saw the word 'demo' on my camera.  So, long story short, my memory card was in my computer for all of the pictures!  I'm just thankful that I noticed before we started painting.

When I was teaching my favorite tool in the classroom was double-sided tape!  I used it for almost everything, including moving our chrysalises into their garden.  I am always happy to find a reason to bring it out at home and I think it works great for this activity.
Grayson also used watercolors to paint his Life Cycle of a Butterfly page.  We used rice, rotini, shell and bowtie pasta to represent each phase in the butterfly life cycle.
You can get this activity and more in my Bugs Preschool Pack!  We sang our Caterpillar Song (you can download it below) together as we pointed to the pictures.  Next week, we will get to do fun butterfly activities as we watch our butterflies appear!  Can't wait!

Happy Earth Day!
I recently updated my Earth Day Literacy, Math and Science Activities, so be sure to check it out!
